Birthdays
Welcome to Term 2! COVID 19 is still impacting our lives and so students are learning from home in the Blended Learning Environment, as they were in Term 1. The staff worked exceptionally hard at the end of Term 1 to ensure we, as a College, were ready for Term 2. So many changes have happened in such a short period of time and I am very proud of what the staff achieved. We initially focussed on the learning aspect of the new environment and this was then followed by a focus on student and family wellbeing. The work we did and the feedback we received should ensure learning continues in Term 2. However, as I have mentioned in previous newsletters and correspondence, everything in this current climate is subject to change. When we finished term 1 we believed we would be learning from home for term 2. Over the break progress in the fight against COVID 19 resulted in new conversations regarding students returning to school. Consequently we have been asked to implement a new plan from week 3 with the goal of returning our students to school as fast as possible. This information will go out to parents within the next week.
The purpose of this newsletter coming out so early in the term is to support you and provide resources to assist with online learning. In this newsletter you will find a summary of the work your child should be completing in the next 2 weeks, guides and help sections, links to websites, ideas for breaks and activities and fee information as well as other school related information.
Thank you for the support and understanding at this time. I asked our staff to consider the positives changes and innovations that have come out of this COVID 19 experience and to make notes. I would like to ask you to do the same as we intend to collect this information and implement changes that will make our College an even better place for all.
Take care
Kate

Quotes from Pope Francis
Let us #PrayTogether for all those who are suffering from sadness, because they are alone, do not know what future awaits them, or cannot take care of their family because they have no job. Let us pray for them today. Twitter 26 Apr 2020
We pray today for teachers who have to work so hard to take lessons via the internet and other media channels, and we also pray for students who have to take exams in a way they are not used to. Let us accompany them with prayer. Twitter 24 April 2020
There's a lot of silence at this moment. May this silence, which is a bit new to what we are accustomed, teach us how to listen. Let us #PrayTogether that we might grow in our ability to listen. Twitter 20 April 2020
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you have all had a relaxing break.
Uniform
Students who are attending school are reminded to wear their correct uniform. However, boys in Yr 7 - 10 do not need to wear their ties until the College is back to normal operation. As the weather begins to cool, students are also reminded to wear their maroon jumper.
Prayer
Families are encouraged to use the Learning from Home website created by the Catholic Schools Office. On this site is a link to prayer ideas for families.
https://sites.google.com/lism.catholic.edu.au/learning-from-home-families/prayer?authuser=0
The YMO’s are also currently developing a Ministry site for our College which will be accessed via our Moodle page.

Last weekend ANZAC Day was commemorated. This was an unusual day in terms of ceremonies and contributions; however it was uplifting to see the many innovative ways people across the country acknowledged those who have served our country and those who are serving today. The sacrifices made by so many has ensured our future of peace, tolerance and freedom. For me, ANZAC day is a time to consider the importance of service, mateship, respect, compassion, empathy and thinking about others - thinking beyond ourselves. McAuley Catholic College commemorated ANZAC Day with a video that was sent to students, staff and parents. Thank you to Mr Bellamy for making this initiative happen and to Laura Moloney for her production skills. Video below.

COVID-19 and College Fees
The College is aware that some families have been negatively impacted by the Corona virus. In response to this we have initiated a number of concessions to help those affected. As Bishop Greg reminds us ‘The Catholic school is open to all who want to share its educational and faith goals inspired by Christian principle…there is a special place in parish schools for those with the greatest need …’.
The College is offering the following concessions to those financially affected by the Corona virus:
- Recipients of JobSeeker payments (unemployment benefits) as a result of COVID-19 will have school fees waived whilst receiving JobSeeker payments
- Recipients of JobKeeper payments as a result of COVID-19 may apply to be considered for a reduction in school fees whilst receiving JobKeeper payments
- Fee payers not included in the above categories, but have been financially disadvantaged as a result of COVID-19 may apply to defer school fees until 1st September, or be considered for a reduction in school fees depending on the circumstances
If you have been adversely affected by the Corona virus, I encourage you to contact either myself or Julie Power on 66 431434.
Stephen Hartmann
College Business Manager
Our enrolment process is still progress in preparation for 2021! COVID 19 put a sudden halt to the plans we had for Open Night in March and the collection and processing of enrolment forms.
Enrolments are still open for 2021. Enrolment forms can be downloaded from our website, collected from the office or posted out to families.
We ask that families submit their forms and documents to the College in the first half of this term. They can be brought to the office, emailed or posted to the College. We are exploring ways of conducting interviews online, which we hope to start in the next few weeks.
Revised dates and programs will be created and posted on our website and in the newsletter.
The Canteen will be open in a reduced capacity during Weeks 1 and 2. We ask that students order hot food and fresh food that requires preparation for both recess and lunch from the menu. This will assist with our organisation, food ordering and reduction of waste. Orders need to be placed at the canteen in the morning.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT - EASTER 2
This first appearance of “love” is, I believe, a miniature of the love existing in the trinity between the Father and Son and Holy Spirit.
All love has its source in God’s love.
This first mention of “love” in the Old Testament, of an earthly love of a father for his only son - a love to suffer the anguish of a sacrificial offering. This is a reflection of the anguish that the Father had in offering His Son as a sacrificial offering for our salvation.
If the Old Testament is a type, then the New Testament is the prototype.
The word “love” is used more often in John’s Gospel that the other 3 Gospels combined.
“Love” is first used in the NT (The love of the Father for the Son) in Matthew 3:17
17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
“Love” first used in Mark 1:11 …….11 Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
“Love” first used in Luke 3:22 ………22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
When “love” first appears in the NT it is the Father’s voice from heaven acclaiming Jesus as His beloved son.
If Abraham loved his son, how much greater is God’s love for His Son?
“Love” is first used in John in John 3:16!
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
3 times from heaven God shouts His love for His Son,
THEN
In John, He tells us that He loved us so much that He was willing to sacrifice His only and beloved Son, in order that we might be saved! (See also 1 John 4: 9 – 11)
This is a message from God to us, and indeed to all the world.
We celebrate it at this time of year, Easter, and try to walk in it for the rest of the year.
Makes you think about the love we share in our daily footsteps doesn’t it? (David Ogg)
